SECAU Opening ceremony
SCISSA is going to have a stand at the opening ceremony of SECAU on the 1ST of October. The ceremony will be held in main lecture hall in building 10. SCISSA needs two members to help us set-up the stand and event from 2:30pm til 5:00pm and then assist with serving food and drink at 5:30pm til 6:30pm.
This is an official function and it’s a perfect place to network with people in the computer security industry. You’ll need to wear a suit or at least a business shirt, tie and trousers. 2008 SCISSA LAN
We’re finally having our LAN for this year. Here are the details you need to know
- When: 4th of October at 2:30pm til the 5th of October at 12:30pm
- Where: ECU Mt Lawley Campus in building 15.127 (the multi-coloured building next to the student parking)
- Cost: $10 SCISSA Members and $15 for Non-Members
- What you need to bring: Yourself, your computer and one Monitor, Ethernet cable, headphones, a power board

SCISSA BBQ and Pool Night

New Public Lectures
SCISSA is getting involved in two high profile events. The first is on the 15th of August and is the Carla Romera Public Lecture on “Women in IT”. Secau Security Research Centre Administrator David Cook would like female students from SCIS and SCA to participate and form part of the audience. He is also looking for one keen female student to take part on the discussion panel with ECU academics and Carla Romero. In addition to this David is also looking for a couple of female students to assist him with serving OJ and red wine for the officials after the Carla Romero lecture. The next event SCISSA is getting involved is on the 18th of August as Andrew Bernat gives a Public Lecture on “The Internet of Things”. Andrew Bernat is well known throughout the US and David is looking for any students who would like to attend the lecture. There is a limit of up to 15 students and David has kindly given SCISSA Members first preference. SCIS International Food and Culture Night
An International Food and Culture night has been organized and all SCIS staff and students are are invited. The night will celebrate SCIS’s great cultural diversity.

Indian IT Study Tour
SCIS is organising a study tour to India during the 2008/09 Summer Vacation. We will be visiting a number of different ICT based companies from large multinational to small sortware houses.
Cultural activies will be planned to allow students many wonderful cultural activities.
In the 2 week tour we will visit cities such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumai and Pune.
The tour is limited to 20 enrolled SCIS students. If you are interested then please come to the Information Session at Mount Lawley, 13.228 on Thursday 24th April at 12.30pm.
